Recent customer cases
Segec – Automating responses to leave requests using generative AI
As part of a pilot project with the legal department of the General Secretariat for Catholic Education (SeGEC), Wavenet implemented a solution based on Azure OpenAI to automate the drafting of responses to teachers' leave requests.
SeGEC, which provides services to Catholic schools in Wallonia and Brussels, launched a generative AI project in 2024 to improve the management of teacher leave requests. These requests, which are often complex and frequent, place an excessive burden on the legal department, even though this is not one of its main tasks. The leave circular is over 150 pages long and covers around 120 types of leave, making it difficult for school administrators to interpret.
To address these challenges, SeGEC has implemented a solution based on Azure OpenAI, integrated with other Microsoft services (Azure Document Intelligence, Cosmos DB, AI Search, Cognitive Skills).
The solution has two objectives:
- First, to provide lawyers with a tool that facilitates searching the circular.
- In a future development, to enable school principals and secretariats to obtain automated responses via a ChatBot, only involving lawyers in complex cases.
Technically, the solution is based on a RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) architecture:
- The LLM receives a question
- It extracts key elements and performs a search in an indexed database
- Relevant documents are summarized to generate a contextualized response.
Implementation required an iterative Scrum approach, with an initial single-agent phase followed by a multi-agent phase to handle more complex cases (e.g., accumulated leave, which requires specific processing of tables that are not well interpreted by standard LLMs).
Several challenges were overcome:
- Compliance with the regulatory structure of the corpus,
- Management of AI hallucination risks,
- Intensive collaboration with business lines,
- Alignment with regulatory requirements (e.G., AI Act).
This project is the first integration of AI into SeGEC. The tool is currently used internally by the legal department, with wider availability planned on the extranet from 2026, in line with the overall strategy of accessibility and automation of services for member schools.
Belgian Bank – Fraud detection through machine learning
Wavenet designed a fraud detection system for a Belgian bank based on machine learning, specifically AutoML.
This project aimed to examine how AI could provide teams with additional support in terms of compliance (improving fraud detection, reducing human workload, strengthening compliance) and enable the bank to develop its expertise in AI projects while complying with regulatory and ethical requirements.
The bank wanted to strengthen its current anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (AML/CTF) system, particularly in light of the constant evolution of fraud (phishing, money mules, etc.).
As part of its ongoing process and control improvement efforts, it worked with Wavenet to implement a Proof of Concept (PoC) based on machine learning. The goal is to supplement the existing system with a smart indicator capable of detecting complex and evolving behavioral patterns through regular training on thousands of transactions.
The expected benefits are:
- A reduction in false positives (legitimate transactions flagged as fraudulent)
- Improved fraud detection
- Significant time savings for compliance analysts
- An improved customer image through faster transaction validation
The PoC tested several machine learning models (random forests, neural networks, etc.) in offline mode on a subset of the data. It evaluated the models according to their accuracy, speed of execution, and cost. Ethical considerations (bias, transparency, GDPR, AI Act) and environmental aspects (preference for a simple, on-premises solution) were integrated from the design phase onwards.
The project is led by the bank's management and has been entrusted to Wavenet, an AI expert, with structured technical support. Industrialization in 2026-2027 is planned based on the results of this PoC.
